Can you wear a cream top in a photo if it has a dark gray background?

I know you're not supposed to wear whitesince it washes you out, but what about cream? do the same rules apply?

I have dark brown hair and fair skin. Can you wear a cream top in a photo if it has a dark gray background?
Move away from the background if possible... and keep yourself well lighted... then don't forget to smile ^_^

Oh and it helps if what your wearing have texture... that would greatly decrease the chance of washing you out... even if it's white... it could easily be seen which is skin which is cloth. ^_^Can you wear a cream top in a photo if it has a dark gray background?
Traditionally your hunch is right on. But the best (eye catching) photo's break the rules because it's different. If you like the top and feel comfortable and beautiful in it...that will reflect in the final product...it's what's behind the face that makes the shot not just the clothes. You could also bring an extra shirt and take photo's with both, then you'll have the time to stare at them and pic your best image (in any shirt).
any colour clothing is fine, the camera should compensate and make the needed adjustments on exposure. Plus, you can always edit and enhance photos later with software on your computer - even change the colour of the shirt... the possibilities are truly endless!
I think it would stand you out of the dark background rather than fading...
